North East Supplier Readiness & Transformation Scheme:
Preparing Businesses for Future EV Opportunities

The North East Supplier Readiness & Transformation (SRT) scheme has recently launched, with £50m secured through the DRIVE35 programme to support the North East’s EV and automotive supply chain.

The SRT Scheme is designed to help businesses across the region strengthen their capabilities, modernise operations and position themselves for opportunities in EV, battery, and advanced manufacturing supply chains.

Below is a summary of the key details to be aware of:

⭐ Funding Available & Intervention Rates

  • Capital grants available from £250,000 to £3 million per project.
  • Maximum intervention rate: 50%.
  • Minimum project spend: £500,000.
  • Suitable for transformational investment such as scaling, diversification, equipment upgrades, or process improvements.

⏳ Timescales

  • Applications now open.
  • All projects must be completed and funds claimed by March 2030.
  • A long delivery window offers stability for planning and delivering strategic investment.

✅ Who Can Apply?

  • UK‑registered businesses of any size.
  • Projects must be delivered within the North East Mayoral Combined Authority area. Organisations newly investing in the region may apply (must register locally before funding is awarded).
  • Applicants must demonstrate clear economic benefit to the region.
  • Eligible activities include EV manufacturing, battery and recycling capability, PEMD technologies, digital transformation, automation, and skills‑related capital projects.
