What is Audit?

Audit is more than forming an opinion on the truth and fairness of a company’s financial statements.

It’s about developing your understanding of how businesses work, working in teams to deliver outstanding client service, building relationships both internally and externally, and learning and progressing every day.

At UNW, we work with many of the North East’s top entrepreneurial businesses and get a real insight into what drives their owners to succeed. Being part of this is genuinely exciting – and offers a privileged look into the business world.

What does that mean in real life?

From day one, you’ll be a key member of the team, working with others on live client audits. You’ll gain insight into how different businesses operate, whether that’s through interacting with clients on site or working with your colleagues at our offices in the heart of Newcastle.

There’s usually travel involved – mostly around the North East, but occasionally further afield.

At UNW, there’s a real focus on learning. You’ll be given the support and opportunities to develop and challenge yourself in a safe and supportive environment. We want everyone here to have the best possible chance of succeeding.

Why it’s a great start to your career

  • You’ll have an employer who’s invested in your future and development from day one
  • You’ll learn by doing – working on audits from the start, supported and coached by the wider team.
  • You’ll be part of an extremely supportive and sociable team that works closely together
  • You’ll study towards a professional qualification that opens doors across finance

Is Audit for you?

If you’re naturally curious, love the idea of working with lots of different people, and want a role that challenges you, helps you grow, and gives you real insight into how businesses work – audit might be just what you’re looking for.

We’re now accepting applications for roles in our audit and tax teams, starting in September 2025.

Apply using the form below, or get in touch at recruitment@unw.co.uk if you have any questions.

Joining UNW straight from sixth form was a big step, but it’s been a really rewarding experience. I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of experienced colleagues and interact with different clients, which has been invaluable for my development.
